Great on iPhone 4s - makes dark mornings easier to wake up to
This fall it was just too hard to wake up on time to a dark room, so I decided I needed some kind of light alarm. I looked for normal, physical alarm clocks with lights, but they were all pricey so I decided to try a phone app first. I am glad I did - this one, though basic, was cheap and is doing the job. There are a couple quirks but overall Im very happy with it. It lets you set the time you want the light to be brightest (and sound the loudest) and also a period of time before the alarm time to start ramping up the light and sound. I set that for 10 minutes, so 10 minutes before I want to get up, the app starts turning up the light and ramping up the sound. You can chose the alarm sound - I use the bird song one. The light will ramp up in jumps, but if you sleep through that, at your alarm time you can set it to vibrate. Thats what I ususally wake up to - the buzzing. But it is so much niceer to wake up to a room with some light in it (from the app). :) There is a fall back alarmyou can set that will buzz/sound again 10 (or your choice) minutes later if you want. That said - a couple quirks or things to do that have made this app work for me - 1) it will light the screen up and optionally use the iPhones flash light. (I have an iPhone 4s). even at max the screen isnt bright enough in my view, so I use the flash light - and set the phone screen down, flash light up, when I set the alarm. 2) once the alarm is set, you cant close the app, you need to leave it on screen for it to run. If you do something else on the phone, youve disabled the alarm. I just set it as I put the phone down at night, the last thing I do with the phone. 3) if your phones volumn is set super low, it seems the alarm sound doesnt get very loud - Im not totally sure about this because Ive been mostly waking up when the alarm time hits and the ap makes the phone vibrate and I dont hear my bird alarm before it, even the times I wake up just before it buzzes - so just set the vibrate option too and youre covered. 4) if you use the flashlight option and hit snooze when the alarm goes off, it turns off the flash and plunges you back into darkness during the snooze time. That might be a perk - me Id rather it kept the light on when snoozing while I get used to the idea of waking up :). With those couple quirks worked with - this app is doing great for me.
